In previous posts, we've looked at the Sydney Opera House (one of the Buildings We Love), and well as several examples of architectural projection.
This past week, the two have merged to create a stunning visual display at the intersection of art, architecture and technology for Vivid LIVE 2012 at the Sydney Opera House. Part of a city-wide event, Vivid Sydney, this specific project, 'Lighting the Sails' by German design collective URBANSCREEN, will be on display from May 25th through June 11th at the iconic building.
Now in its 4th year, the projections and light installations for the event have become increasingly sophisticated and dynamic, and 'Lighting the Sails' exemplifies this through an intriguing performance that explores the relationships between scale, space, light and form.

As a stage for digital facade abstractions that challenge our perceptions of reality, materiality and form, this projection exemplifies a unique type of performance art in the way the human body interacts with architecture, creating a visual space that truly examines the 'iconic sculptural form of the Opera House (as well as) a place as a home for music, dance and drama'.
This concept is heightened as that exploration comes full circle, as the sails flutter, undulate, and ultimately crumple like paper into the night darkness.
